Less than two weeks left to submit to the Youth Writing Contest
Youth ages 14 to 18 from all over the globe are writing in their answers to the question, “How can we use agriculture to produce more food, generate food of better quality, and improve people’s nutrition and health?”
The first place will receive USD $500 and 25 copies of the printed contest booklet. Runners-up will receive USD $250 and 10 copies of the printed contest booklet. Winning entries will be featured on the conference website and at the conference in New Delhi in February 2011.
The next generation can improve nutrition and health through agriculture. We need to hear what you have to say!

Three experts provide new insights on how fertilizers affect agriculture, nutrition, and health
Fertilizers can sustainably enhance agriculture for improving nutrition and health, said the participants of the second seminar in the lead-in series for the 2020 conference. Luc Maene of the International Fertilizer Association (IFA), Tom Bruulsema of the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI), and Ross Welch from USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (ARS) explored both the potential opportunities and major challenges for using fertilizers and other technologies to positively affect agriculture, health, and nutrition.
Understanding the interactions between agriculture and health

During the first lead-in policy seminar for the conference, Per Pinstrup Andersen of Cornell University and Robert Bos of the World Health Organization examined opportunities to strengthen the linkages between the agriculture and health sectors. The speakers emphasized the need for a paradigm shift within research and policy, calling for the sectors to step out of their “silos.” Only with the power of inter-sectoral cooperation, they insisted, can we improve global health. read more
